Birthday Girl Blog
Mood:  celebratory
Now Playing: Big 3-0, big deal

Today is my birthday and yup, that number in the title above is correct, I am of a certain age. They say you are as young as you feel, and I feel pretty darn good. I'm waiting for this "maturity" thing to kick in...any second now.

In that meanwhile, here are some quotes about getting old. I promise a review of "Snakes on a plane" tomorrow.

Albert Einstein:
People like you and I, though mortal of course like everyone else, do not grow old no matter how long we live...[We] never cease to stand like curious children before the great mystery into which we were born.

Coco Chanel:
A woman has the age she deserves.

Norman Vincent Peale:
Live your life and forget your age.

Elizabeth Barrett Browning
A woman's always younger than a man of equal years.

Oscar Wilde:
Experience is simply the name we give our mistakes.

Dorothy Canfield Fisher
Those who love deeply never grow old; they may die of old age, but they die young.

Bob Hope
I'm so old they've cancelled my blood type.

Gracie Allen
When I was born I was so surprised I didn't talk for a year and a half.

Reading is Fundamental!
Mood:  lazy
Now Playing: The blather book club begins!

If you remember when Mel Gibson got busted for DWI (and other things) it was mentioned somewhere (too lazy to look) that Mel-o had plans to make a book into a movie. The book is called  "Those who Trespass" by  Bill O'Reilly.

Yup Bill O'Reilly. This guy.

I never knew such a book existed and  I know about one other person who has read it.  I had read BO'RS stuff before and somewhat agreed with him. Course I don't recall what it was that I agreed with and I gave away the books to the library so I'm not going to look it up.

I never thought I would find this book, so I didn't even think I would ever read it. At this point, the book becoming a movie is kinda iffy. But then something happened, I found the book. I got it at a local yard sale for fifty cents. (so like Paris Hilton, Bill-o is cheap).

I could not resist this purchase. In the coming weeks or months (however long it takes me) I've decided to read the book and post my thoughts on it when I'm done. I'm at chapter five now. (ok it took me a month to read two pages and a half hour to read four).

A friend of mine advised its easier to read if you forget who the author is, and it is, Bill-os picture does not appear on the book. Thank god for small favors.

When I finish the book I will review it.  As Keith Olbermann might say, Mr O'Reilly is good at fiction. Lets see if this is true. I think this is the first and last fiction book (that is if you don't count the other books he wrote, ha!) he ever wrote.

The Ron Clark Story
Mood:  happy
Now Playing: Entry Two
Topic: Review Time

The Ron Clark Story was a good movie. Matthew Perry did an wonderful job in it. I normally don't watch the TNT Johnson & Johnson movies, but I checked this one out. I was glad I did. My only complaint was that it was pretty much the same "good teacher gets students inspired to learn" story, but then again it wouldn't be a good story if it had a "they all failed" ending, would it?

Anyway in a few weeks "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" will be on I'll be watching it. Hopefully this and the Ron Clark movie will have the US seeing  Mr Perry as something other than Chandler Bing.

The Ron Clark Story
Mood:  happy
Now Playing: Movie Sign!

As you may or may not know this blog is also linked to my Matthew Perry website, the CitizenNancy Matthew Perry Scrapbook.  It took roughly forty entries but now I have one about Mr Perry.

On TNT this weekend a movie he stars in, the Ron Clark Story, will be on at 8 PM eastern (check your own listings for time and channel in your area)  This is an incredible looking movie and I thought I would be a bit lacking if i didn't use this space to promote it. Its based on the true story of Ron Clark, a teacher.

I promise a blog, if not that night then at least the night after on what I think.

My MP site is at this address: https://members.tripod.com/~citizennancy/

Sunday Fun Photo Blog
Mood:  chillin'
Now Playing: Vroom!

This weekend I went to a monster truck/racing event. I do not go to a lot of these races. In fact the last time I went to a race the movie City Slickers was in theaters. I only know that cause the race got rained out and we went to see that movie. But since then I haven't gone to a race even though there a handful of race tracks near me. I do not go because...

a) It's noisy. One thing you forget when you see it on tv is that you don't hear the cars. It's a blessing.

b) Its hard to pay attention to when everyone and their brother is walking in front of you to get to the concession stand. If you are looking at some guy with a shirt off (who really needs to wear a shirt) sometimes you miss the action or the crash.

c) There are insects, and lots of them. I saw a dragonfly that looked like a small black helicopter.

d) At my old job I used to be at work during the same time the races were being held. Yeah, I could ask for a night off, but you see how motivated I was: not very.

So  yeah, I kinda let my "Redneck" side show when I went to the races. There were more races than monster truck orientated stuff at the event. I guess I'm more of a fan of  "smashy smashy" than racing anyway.

The following picture proved to be too big for my blog, but its one of the monster trucks named "Thrasher". This is the link to the picture. Let me know if you can't see it.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v229/citizennancy/000_0156(.)jpg

At this race there were three monster trucks. All three of them failed to completely total a red minivan, so if you want an indusctructible car, get a mini van.  The position of the mini-van, in the middle of one pile, might have worked against the monster trucks.

As fun as it was, I don't think  I will turn into a racing fan just yet. Its still just rolling around the same stretch of road over and over and over again.

Ooooh New Month!
Mood:  cool
Now Playing: Upcoming to the Blather
Topic: Randomness Alert!

I havent had a blog since July 16. And for that I apologize to the two people reading this.

For these people: A semi new blog!

In August I promise to blog more, and actually blog about what I say I will. The "Remakes vs originals" topic will come around someday. In the meantime August promises the following:

A blog on who I think will win Emmys, and surely a blog about me whining about who did win.

A glorious book review! Hint: A fiction book from a tv anchor.

I will provide a review of "Snakes on a plane", and some movies that came out this year that you should avoid.

Stay tuned, it should be good!

"Go away!"
Mood:  a-ok
Now Playing: Buh bye!
Topic: Rant time

More people I want to go away:

Rachel Ray from the Food Network.

Who she is: She is a cook on the Food Network, has three shows including one that is about how you can spend 40$ a day and get three or four good meals. Obviously shes never taken advantage of dollar menus.

Why: Shes everywhere. She has three shows on the food network and one more upcoming. I think it is some sort of talk show. Geez. Talk about spreading yourself thin!

I'd rather see more shows with Alton Brown, the Good Eats food guru.

Star Jones, formerly of the View.

Why: Shes  on a farewell tour after pretty much quitting/getting booted off the View.  I will like Star more if she vanishes and shows up with a revamped look (she looked better when she wasnt scary skinny! I am protecting your eyes by not posting a picture.) and a new show. Maybe she can tag team with Rachel Ray.

Blather-athon
Mood:  chatty
Now Playing: Yakkity Yak
Topic: Randomness Alert!
I hope you enjoyed the youtube video festival I had this Fourth of July weekend! Probably won't do that again till next year. In the meantime if the videos suddenly become dead links let me know please, and I can replace it with something else.

Some things that have been on my mind.

Tom and Katies baby yet to be seen: It could be a good thing, it might look like the baby from "It's alive!" But seriously, its a good thing as I don't want to see the baby. I don't care. Celebrity babies are in the spotlight their whole life, so if they want to keep Suri (whatever happened to names like Alice or Jill or Nancy?) out of sight, it's fine with me.

WWE: I've been without cable for a month and will get it back in time for the next Saturday Night Main Event on NBC. Uh, yay? The main event features "DX" against five male cheerleaders. Ugh... I mean yay! Meanwhile the "WWE Wellness" program is in full swing as several top names are out of the picture, for now.

The Emmys: For the first time in years I missed the announcement of the Emmy nominations on "Today". I was surprised when James Gandolfini and Edie Falco were not nominated. I had the chance to see the most recent Sopranos season, and they did very well. I was very surprised when James Spader and Hugh Laurie were not nominated. Both actors did very well, I thought, but I gather not enough people felt the same way. I'd like to know who thought Kevin James was Emmy worthy though. At times hes funny, a good comedian, but only so-so in the acting department. What I worried about? That Monk guy is going to win again anyway. Predictions for the Emmys will fall right before the ceremony.

Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Mans Chest:
Good movie, although it seemed a little long. It seemed to "Stop" rather than end. Part three is coming up next year. I give it three stars.

Trailers: Three of them. These were trailers I saw during Dead Mans Chest.
"Hoax" : Couldn't really follow the trailer cause it seemed I kept distracted by Richard Geres hair. It screamed "bad dye job". From what I gather its about a hoax.
"Transformers" movie teaser: There was an animated movie about the robot TV series that came out years ago. It will still be better than this new one.
"Guardian" : Kevin Costner as some sort of coast guard lifesaver. I might see it. Uh oh, Ashton Kutcher. Changed my mind. I looked at him and thought "Dude, wheres my boat?".

A Muppet Test!
Mood:  happy
Now Playing: So who are YOU?

You Are Fozzie Bear

"Wocka! Wocka!"

You're the life of the party, and you love making people crack up.

If only your routine didn't always bomb!

You may find more groans than laughs, but always keep the jokes coming.
