I hope you enjoyed the youtube video festival I had this Fourth of July weekend! Probably won't do that again till next year. In the meantime if the videos suddenly become dead links let me know please, and I can replace it with something else.
Some things that have been on my mind.
Tom and Katies baby yet to be seen: It could be a good thing, it might look like the baby from "It's alive!" But seriously, its a good thing as I don't want to see the baby. I don't care. Celebrity babies are in the spotlight their whole life, so if they want to keep Suri (whatever happened to names like Alice or Jill or Nancy?) out of sight, it's fine with me.
WWE: I've been without cable for a month and will get it back in time for the next Saturday Night Main Event on NBC. Uh, yay? The main event features "DX" against five male cheerleaders. Ugh... I mean yay! Meanwhile the "WWE Wellness" program is in full swing as several top names are out of the picture, for now.
The Emmys: For the first time in years I missed the announcement of the Emmy nominations on "Today". I was surprised when James Gandolfini and Edie Falco were not nominated. I had the chance to see the most recent Sopranos season, and they did very well. I was very surprised when James Spader and Hugh Laurie were not nominated. Both actors did very well, I thought, but I gather not enough people felt the same way. I'd like to know who thought Kevin James was Emmy worthy though. At times hes funny, a good comedian, but only so-so in the acting department. What I worried about? That Monk guy is going to win again anyway. Predictions for the Emmys will fall right before the ceremony.
Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Mans Chest: Good movie, although it seemed a little long. It seemed to "Stop" rather than end. Part three is coming up next year. I give it three stars.
Trailers: Three of them. These were trailers I saw during Dead Mans Chest. "Hoax" : Couldn't really follow the trailer cause it seemed I kept distracted by Richard Geres hair. It screamed "bad dye job". From what I gather its about a hoax. "Transformers" movie teaser: There was an animated movie about the robot TV series that came out years ago. It will still be better than this new one. "Guardian" : Kevin Costner as some sort of coast guard lifesaver. I might see it. Uh oh, Ashton Kutcher. Changed my mind. I looked at him and thought "Dude, wheres my boat?".

I promised a review of the next movie I see, Prairie Home Companion, the movie about a fictionalized version of Garrison Keillors radio program. But then I kinda turned lazy and put the whole thing off. I have a much better reason than laziness for not posting the review so soon after I see it: I haven't seen the whole thing. My movie companion and I were about twenty minutes late for the movie so who knows how much I missed was the actual movie and how many were trailers.
I confess I am not a PHC fan and went because my mother, my movie companion, is a fan of the show. I don't know much about the show in itself so many of the movies characters, like "Dangerous Woman" and "Guy Noir", are strangers to me. Thinking about it now, that could be a good thing; not knowing anything about the show. It pretty much eliminates any kind of bias.
Meryl Streep, Lily Tomlin, Kevin Kline (a personal favorite of mine) and Lindsay Lohan (who sings in the movie but its toward the end. If you don't like her or her singing, don't worry, its a short number)are in this movie.
I surprised myself and found I liked the movie a lot more than I thought I would. My unofficial review is B- but that could change depending on when I see the first few missing moments of the movie. I won't be tuning into the show anytime soon but it is a good night at the movies.
Why I Will Never Be a Taster on Iron Chef
I hear you should always try new things. I could be into that depending on what the new thing is. New food? Sure. Maybe once. After today I think I may think a little bit more before trying something unfamiliar again.
I was at a store today in the area and the store in question has a oriental food department (I don't know if it was Chinese or Japanese or "other", so I'm going with a broader description.) In a sample case they had California rolls to take and try. It was like this picture except there was no sea food in it. I found out there was no sea food in it the hard way.
Its the kind of thing you would see on Iron Chef but far less elaborate. People were trying them so decided to try one. I pop a smaller one in my mouth and chewed a little. Shortly before I decided to swallow, it was as if my stomach knew what I was tying to feed it and decided to fully revolt against what I was eating. I went to a bathroom and spat it out. Trying to eat kelp doesn't agree with me or my stomach, I gather.
"What are you trying to do to us? This is healthy stuff!"
Anyway, it must have been either the sesame seeds in the rice or the kelp, I suddenly got the nastiest taste in my mouth. Long story short version I guess I didn't like it. But I did try it, and now I know never to go near the stuff again.
The point is, that if I were a guest judge on Iron Chef, if I used the facial expressions I was told I used when tasting the roll, it would be a complete giveaway that I don't like your cooking.
Or better yet, wait till you have an Iron Chef where the secret ingredient is peanut butter. You can't do too many weird things with peanut butter. Or can you?
Hannibal Lecter: As your mother tells you, and my mother certainly told me, it is important, she always used to say, always to try new things.
X-Men 3: The Last Stand Mood: a-ok Now Playing: We have movie sign! Topic: Review Time X-Men 3 - This was a very good movie. A few plot elements which I won't list here will make some die hard fans angry. Each X-men movie is better than the last. I hope this isn't the final movie, yet I hear are spin offs in the works for certain characters. Wait and see what happens, there was a rumored spin off for a Bond girl but I think that ultimately fell through.
Next movie? Possibly the movie version of the Prairie Home Companion. Will tell you when I know.
Katie Couric Mood: cheeky Now Playing: See You in September? Topic: So long, Farewell....
Na na na na, hey hey-ey, goodbye Hey hey-ey, goodbye Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey-ey, goodbye Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey-ey, goodbye Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey-ey, goodbye
Katie Couric. Miss Katie. Uh yeah, whatever. Yeah, she said goodbye today. She was saying goodbye before today, I bet.
I think I've watched less than two hours of her my entire life. The only time I've watched "Today" was when nominations for awards were announced. I would then stick around to see how shocked or not shocked they were and go back to sleep. (Hey I worked nights then, leave me alone).
She could have taken care of goodbye in two minutes, and not get so emotionally verklempt about it. And don't forget people, shes coming back. Shes not going off to be a hermit and grow a beard, although that would be an interesting look.
I have no real opinion of her but since shes a fellow blonde (Or is she blonde? I thought she had dark hair), I'll wish her a little bit of luck. Don't ask how much, you won't get an answer that isn't laced with sarcasm.
Will I watch the CBS Evening News With Katie Couric? Well, to tell you the truth, no. I don't watch it now, I am not planning on starting any time soon. We'll see what happens. In other words, start your office pool now.
