Emmy Time!
Mood:  quizzical
Now Playing: A blather about predictions

The Emmy Awards are on this weekend, Sunday actually, on NBC eight pm eastern. Conan O'Brien is your host. He did a wonderful job the last time he hosted, so I'm expecting good times this year.

Like everyone cool will be doing this week, I am putting out who I think will win, and who I want to win. Caveat Emptor - A warning if you will. Most newspaper predictions will be done by people who've seen at least 99% of the nominees. Maybe more. I will admitt to not seeing many of the nominees and I have reasons, many valid reasons.

Reason one: Some shows are on HBO. Except for The Sopranos, I've not see many of the HBO nominees.
Reason two: Some shows are on at times I was watching something else.

So why do a list at all? Its an easy blog, to tell you the truth. And eveyone else will be doing the same, except not in blog form.

My track record stinks, so if I'm wrong, we'll do the sensible thing...and blame the Emmy voters. Just kidding.

Drama Series: "Grey's Anatomy," ABC; "House," Fox; "The Sopranos," HBO; "24," Fox; "The West Wing," NBC.
Will win: Greys Anatomy, its hot right now.
Should win: House. It had a wonderful season with many different types of stories involving more than just Gregory House (the unfairly passed over Hugh Laurie). I have never seen "Greys". the last doctor show ABC had on that I liked they canned it. Sorpanos had a so-so season after the initial buzz of one main character getting shot. West wing went out on a strong season but not a winner this time. 24 was very action packed so it may be the third strongest nominee.

Comedy Series: "Arrested Development," Fox; "Curb Your Enthusiasm," HBO;

"The Office," NBC; "Scrubs," NBC; "Two and a Half Men," CBS.
Will win: Arrested Development, just to tick people.
Should win: Yikes. Never seen any of the above. Scrubs.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Miniseries: "Bleak House (Masterpiece Theatre)," PBS; "Elizabeth I," HBO; "Into the West," TNT; "Sleeper Cell," Showtime.
Will Win: Into the west
Should win: Into the west - Emmy likes big magestic miniseries.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Made-for-TV Movie: "Flight 93," A&E; "The Flight That Fought Back," Discovery Channel; "The Girl in the Cafe," HBO; "Mrs. Harris," HBO; "Yesterday," HBO.
Will win: Flight 93
Should win: Uhhhhh yeah. Three HBO movies. Hmmm. Flight 93.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Variety, Music or Comedy Series: "The Colbert Report," Comedy Central; "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart," Comedy Central; "Late Night With Conan O'Brien," NBC; "Late Show With David Letterman," CBS; "Real Time With Bill Maher," HBO.
Will Win: Jon Stewart
Should Win: David Letterman. This is one of the better parts of the awards, watch the nomination clip they have before each nominee here, each are funny.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Actor, Drama Series: Christopher Meloni, "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," NBC; Denis Leary, "Rescue Me," FX Network; Peter Krause, "Six Feet Under," HBO; Kiefer Sutherland, "24," Fox; Martin Sheen, "The West Wing," NBC.
Will Win: Martin Sheen - a nice goodbye gift
Should win: Kiefer Sutherland. If Sutherland was not on the show, I would not be watching 24 otherwise.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Actress, Drama Series: Kyra Sedgwick, "The Closer," TNT; Geena Davis, "Commander in Chief," ABC; Mariska Hargitay, "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," NBC; Frances Conroy, "Six Feet Under," HBO; Allison Janney, "The West Wing," NBC.
Will Win: Kyra Sedgwick is getting a lot of love right now.
Should win: My love goes to Mariska Hargitay. She puts a lot of soulfulness and emotion in her character.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Supporting Actor, Drama Series: William Shatner, "Boston Legal," ABC; Oliver Platt, "Huff," Showtime; Michael Imperioli, "The Sopranos," HBO; Gregory Itzin, "24," Fox; Alan Alda, "The West Wing," NBC. Will Win: William Shatner. Mr Shatner is fantastic in this role.

Should win: Need I say it? Denny Crane!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Supporting Actress, Drama Series: Candice Bergen, "Boston Legal," ABC; Sandra Oh, "Grey's Anatomy," ABC; Chandra Wilson, "Grey's Anatomy," ABC; Blythe Danner, "Huff," Showtime; Jean Smart, "24," Fox.
Will win: Jean Smart
Should win: Candice Bergen. Ms Bergen is back and funnier than ever. I personally think both Greys chicks will split the vote.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Actor, Comedy Series: Larry David, "Curb Your Enthusiasm," HBO; Kevin James, "The King of Queens," CBS; Tony Shalhoub, "Monk," USA; Steve Carell, "The Office," NBC; Charlie Sheen, "Two and a Half Men," CBS.
Will Win: Tony Shalhoub. Hes the closet lock right now IMHO.
Should win: Tony however should sit out this time and let someone new win. No this is not a vote for Kevin James. Mr Sheen? Perhaps. Give it to Larry David. The speech should be good.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Actress, Comedy Series: Lisa Kudrow, "The Comeback," HBO; Jane Kaczmarek, "Malcolm in the Middle," Fox; Julia Louis-Dreyfus, "The New Adventures of Old Christine," CBS; Stockard Channing, "Out of Practice," CBS; Debra Messing, "Will & Grace," NBC.
Will Win:  Debra Messing, her show is over.
Should win: But giving it to someone cause their show is over could also apply to Lisa Kudrow and Jane Kaczmarek. My vote goes to Stockard Channing.

Supporting Actor, Comedy Series: Will Arnett, "Arrested Development," Fox;Jeremy Piven, "Entourage," HBO; Bryan Cranston, "Malcolm in the Middle," Fox; Jon Cryer, "Two and a Half Men," CBS; Sean Hayes, "Will & Grace," NBC.
Will win: Sean Hayes. Almost a given
Should win: Jon Cryer. Show Duckie some love!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Supporting Actress, Comedy Series: Cheryl Hines, "Curb Your Enthusiasm," HBO; Alfre Woodard, "Desperate Housewives," ABC; Jaime Pressly, "My Name Is Earl," ABC; Elizabeth Perkins, "Weeds," Showtime; Megan Mullally, "Will & Grace," NBC.
Will Win: Megan Mullally, she'll get to parade it around on her new talk show.
Should win: Jaime Pressley

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Actor, Miniseries or a Movie: Charles Dance, "Bleak House (Masterpiece Theatre)," PBS; Donald Sutherland, "Human Trafficking," Lifetime; Ben Kingsley, "Mrs. Harris," HBO; Jon Voight, "Pope John Paul II," CBS;Andre Braugher, "Thief," FX Network.
Will win: Jon Voight
Should win: Donald Sutherland - A father son win would be cool.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Actress, Miniseries or a Movie: Kathy Bates, "Ambulance Girl," Lifetime; Gillian Anderson, "Bleak House (Masterpiece Theatre)," PBS; Helen Mirren, "Elizabeth I," HBO; Judy Davis, "A Little Thing Called Murder," Lifetime; Annette Bening, "Mrs. Harris," HBO.
Will Win:  Helen Mirren, one of my all time fave actresses
Should win: Helen Mirren
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Supporting Actor, Miniseries or a Movie: Denis Lawson, "Bleak House (Masterpiece Theatre)," PBS; Hugh Dancy, "Elizabeth I," HBO; Jeremy Irons, "Elizabeth I," HBO; Robert Carlyle, "Human Trafficking," Lifetime; Clifton Collins Jr., "Thief," FX Network.
Will win: Jeremy Irons
Should win: Robert Carlyle

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Supporting Actress, Miniseries or a Movie: Kelly Macdonald, "The Girl in the Cafe," HBO; Shirley Jones, "Hidden Places," Hallmark; Ellen Burstyn, "Mrs. Harris," HBO; Cloris Leachman, "Mrs. Harris," HBO; Alfre Woodard, "The Water Is Wide (Hallmark Hall of Fame Presentation)," CBS.
Will win: Alfre Woodard
Should win: Cloris Leachman. This is also the catergory that has a certain nominee who it turns out is only in the movie long enough to blink an eye. How that happened, I'm not sure. They say quality over quantity, but I think you gotta be in something longer than a few seconds.

So there you have it, some shows/movies I've seen and some I havent but I think I can make about a fair a guess as anyone. Good night and I will see you after the awards!
