Beyond Friends Episode 70 "Baby Mine"

Special Guest:
Paget Brewster as Kathy

"Having My Baby"

Chandler stumbled to the phone and picked it up.
"Hello?" He said a bit groggily.
"Hey, its me." Kathy said. "Listen I was hoping you didnt forget our doctor appointment today."
"Oh no, I didn't." He said.
"Good, cause I pulled a lot of strings to get us in to the clinic weeks ahead before we would have been allowed. Hope youre there. And on time too." She said curtly and hung up.
Chandler placed the phone back on the cradle, feeling like Kathy had just chewed him up and swallowed him whole.
Was he doing the right thing? After all she seemed less than appreciative of the actual sacrifice he was making for her. Its not everyday you willingly decide to have a baby with your ex.
Chandler took a deep breath, swallowed a breath mint and headed for the door. But then he stopped. Just a weird sensation of sorts. He turned for a split second.
Chandler caught sight of something in the bedroom Rachel had taken during her stay. He saw something purple and crumpled on the floor. He went into the room.
"Rachel?" He said out loud but knew she was not there. He leaned over and picked up the purple object.
"Her favorite casmier." He said out loud. "She left it here." He sat on her bed and pressed the fabric to his face. He could still smell her fragrance, it was like she had never left. He pulled it away from his face and laid down on the bare mattress and held it to his chest and closed his eyes.
He thought he heard the door close. He sat up and looked through the door. It was her.
"Rachel?" He said again.
"Hi." She said.
He looked down at the sweater. "You left this here." He held it out to her.
"I know." She said coming toward him. "Dont you think I would?" She took the sweater.
"What do you mean?"
"If I didn't intend to come back I would not have left anything." She said now sitting next to him on the bed.
"Really?" He said.
"I love you, you silly bird." Rachel said. "I always will."
"What about Ross?" He asked.
"Forget about him." She said pulling him close. "I already have." She kissed him on the lips. He didnt hesistate in returning her kiss. They embraced and it seemed like they were coming closer than they every had before. It was a breathless kiss that seemed like it would never end. And he hoped it wouldnt.

"Chandler Bing?" He heard his name being called. He snapped out of his dream world. "You're next."
Chandler snapped out of his daydream. It took him a minute to reassess and remember his actual location. He wasa at the Fifth street fertility clinic. He was sitting in one of the faded orange chairs next to Kathys pocket book and a year old copy of Fortune 500. Chandler stood up and walked to the recpetionists desk, where the woman who had just called his name stood.
"We're ready for you now, Mr Bong." She said beckoning him with her clipboard.
"The name is Bing actually." Chandler corrected.
He walked by a room where Kathy was sitting talking to a doctor wearing a paper thin johnny. She waved to him, happily, a sharp contrast to the hostile woman that he had pictured her in his daydream he had about with Rachel and her old bedroom....
He shook his head to stop himself from thinking about his fantasy. None of that was possible now.
She was with Ross. She will always be with Ross.
"Okay." The nurse handed him a cup. "Put this on. When youre ready with the cup let us know."
Chandler looked at the cup with flowers and sheep on it. "Are you sure I wont need a bigger cup?" He asked slyly.
"Do you know how many times I hear that in a day?" The nurse said barely holding in her laughter. "You're the least believable of them all."
She closed the door. He waited till he could no longer hear the clip-clops of her nurses shoes down the hallway before he examined his surroundings.
He was here for Kathy but he couldnt help thinking.
"Whats Rachel doing now?" He mused to himself.

The Gellers

Rachel kicked the door open to the apartment she and Ross now shared. She had just returned from doing laundry. She never thought a paleontologist would wear this much stuff! She dumped the basket on the floor. She took a deep breath and looked over at the answering machine. She strolled over and clicked the play button.
"You have two new messages." The machine intoned before rewinding the message tape.
Rachel crashed in a bean bag chair and waited for the machine to stop rewinding the tape.
"Hey Rach? Its Ross. I'm gonna be home a little late tonight." Ross said. "Sorry about dinner! Its just this big thing that came up at the museum. Sorry again."

"How cam some moldy old bone be more important than me?" She asked herself. Message number two started.
"Hi, its me. Chandler. I'm going to the doctor now. I don't know, Rachel, I'm just very confused. I don't know whether I want to do this for me, or for some other reason. I'll call you later, ok? BTW Ross owes me a new tie."
Rachel laugher to herself. At the dinner they had at the cook your own steak place, Ross had jokingly smeared Chandlers tie with barbeque sauce to make it look cooler.
She picked up her laundry load and placed it on the coffee table. As she started to fold this thought occured to her.
"What kind of kid might Chandler have with that woman?"

The clinic

Chandler, strangely enough, was having the same thought. He had turned in his cup a few minutes ago, so he was left in the tiny room. It was full of "help" for guys who needed it. He sat back and closed his eyes. Kathy was no doubt being "helped" right at this second. He was still tired from the night before. It took him a few seconds to fall asleep.

Chandler suddenly awoke when he felt something jump on his lap. He opened his eyes, and he gazed upon a young boy sitting on his lap.
"Daddy, can I go play on the jungle gym?" He asked.
"Sure." He said. "Why not?" He said looking around. "Wheres your mom?" He asked.
"Over there." He pointed.
Chandler picked up his son while he sat up. They were in a park. He set down his son and he ran off to play at the jungle gym. He looked over to where Chandler Jr said his mom was sitting. It was a classic wooden picnic table. Problem was there was two women sitting with heir backs turned to him. He walked up around the other side of the tabe so he could see them.
"Hey." He said.
The two women looked at him. It was Kathy and Rachel. Kathy he could understand being in his dream but not Rachel.
"Swell kid eh?" He said.
"You're a great dad." Kathy said.
"I'm sure the mom is pretty terrific too, isnt she?" Chandler asked.
"You dont know who your sons mother is?" Rachel asked.
"I think I do." I'm not sure. Chandler thought to himself.
"It's not me." Kathy said.
"Its not?" Chandler asked.
"Its not mine either." Rachel said.
"Then who?" Chandler asked.

Just then Chandler was shaken awake. Kathy was at his side fully clothed.
"I just got done." She said. "It will take a bit, but I think we did it." She hugged Chandler. "Thank you so much."
"You're welcome." Chandler said.
"So what have you been thinking about?" Kathy asked as they left. "You seemed to have a lot on your mind."
"Just some things." Chandler said. "Nothing important."
