"All Night Long"

"Where are you guys going tonight?" Monica asked as she sat with Rachel in her room. Rachel was getting dressed.
"Wesley and Alison invited us to their first anniversary party." Rachel said.
"I thought their anniversary was a month or so ago." Monica said.
"It was but they've had no time to celebrate. At least not with friends anyway. They been so busy with work and Alisons singing career." Rachel said. "Just think, in a year that could be Ross and me."
"Yeah, hopefully." Monica nodded, squinting a bit.
"And whats that supposed to mean?" Rachel turned to her and put her hands on her hips.
"With your history, and I mean in the most sister-in-lawly way possible, anything can happen between now and then." Monica said.
"Good to see you're pulling for me." Rachel said as she pulled on another top.
"Marriage is very important for me."
"Speaking of which." Rachel said turning, she pulled the zipper up on her top. "What about you and Pete? It seems like you put this marriage proposal off for along time."
"I know. I just dont know what to say." Monica said. "Petes the sweetest guy for waiting for me to decide our future." Monica said examining one of her knuckles. "But right now I don't know what just the hell I want to do."
"If you gotta take this long in deciding, I think the answers already pretty obivous." Rachel said. Monica looked at her, wordlessly.
"You think?" She asked.
"I think you know what you gotta do." Rachel said.
There was a knock at the bedroom door. Rachel pulled it open.
"Oh hello sunshine." Chandler said.
"Hey, how are you?" Rachel asked smiling.
"Pretty good." Chandler said. "I'm ready to get this swinging party on the road." He said making a bad golf swing. "Ooh thats a bad slice." He grimaced.
"I thought you were taking your own car." Rachel asked as she came out of her bedroom with Monica.
"Nah, we're both going to the same place, I figured, what the hell. If I can stay holed up in one car with you two for half an hour, the rest of the night ought to be a breeze." He waved at Monica. "Are you coming?"
"Oh no, I got some bookkepping to do. I came to use Ross's computer." She said pointing at Ross who was tying his black tie.
"Why so formal Ross?" Chandler asked.
"Hes been dying to wear this tux I got for him last week." Rachel said. "Any excuse is good as another." She shrugged.
"Its Wesley and Alison first anniversary. I just thought I might show them a little respect." Ross explained.
"You got our gift ready?" She asked as Ross helped her with her coat.
"Check. You Chandler?" Ross said.
"Got it." Chandler patted a box under his arm. "My package and I are ready to go."
"Have fun you guys!" Monica said as they left. "I think I got a phone call to make." She said as she looked at Rachel. Rachel nodded her silent approval.
"Coming honey?" Ross asked halfway down the hall.
"Yes, sugar." Chandler cracked.
"Be right there." Rachel said as Monica closed the door.

West 42nd Street

Wesley met the gang at the door.
"So glad you guys could make it!" Wesley said shaking Chandler and Ross's hand and giving Rachel a kiss on her cheek.
"Its our pleasure, believe us." Chandler said.
"I can't believe its been a year already." Rachel said as Wesley took her coat. "It seems like it was just yesterday that we were on that blind date. Its good how things worked out."
"I know. Whatever would have happened if I got with you and Alison got with Chandler?" Wesley said. "Thank god for small favors. Its worked out much better this way." Wesley said closing the door. "I think some of you might agree with me."
"I do." Ross said. "You've been so lucky. Thank god you didnt have to go through the endless hurdles me and Rachel went through to get to this day."
"But it was worth it wasnt it?" Wesley asked.
"Yeah." Ross said looking at Rachel who looked back at him. "The reward was well worth the sacrifice."
"I got a gift for you." Chandler said jumping into the conversation.
"You're so sweet." Wesley said. "Alison! Bing got us a gift!"
"Oh go on." Chandler said. "No really, go on."
"We brought you something too." Rachel said as Alison approached.
"All I got to say is if its another waffle iron, I'm gonna scream." Alison said hugging Rachel. "I got enough to start my own waffle house."
Ross handed Alison the box. She carefully opened it.
"A pocket watch!" She marveled. Wesley looked at it with her.
"It's inscribed." Ross said pointing. "Check it out."
"To Wesleys and Alisons everlasting love, we all should be so lucky." Wesley said reading it out loud. "Geller, I don't know what to say."
"It keeps perfect time." Ross said. "At least thats what the salesguy said."
"What did you get us?" Alison gesturing to the box that Chandler gave Wesley.
"Open it." Chandler said. "I chose to go along the more traditional. Just call it my thing."
Wesley opened the box. "Its a ream of copy/fax paper." He said.
Ross and Rachel looked at Chandler.
"What?" He shrugged. "The first anniversary is paper. See for yourself. I'm sure that pocket watch has a calendar of some type." He said defensively.
"Honey Bing got us copy paper." Wesley said. "Its the good type too. This costs 15$ at the good office supply stores." He smiled.
"Thanks Chandler." Alison laughed. "Come on in guys. Dinners almost ready."

Later

Rachel sat with her glass of wine on the sofa. She watched the guys watching the tv. Alison perched herself on the edge of the sofa.
"Hey."
"Hey." Rachel smiled at her.
"You look like the model of someone with something on her mind." Alison said.
"Not really." Rachel said slowly. "What made you think that?"
"I don't know, I just knew." She said. "Do you want to get away from it all and talk?"
"I dunno."
"We got a balcony." Alison offered.
"Ok then." Rachel said. They got up and left, she taking her glass of wine with her. Unknown to her Chandler watched her and Chandler walk out onto the balcony.

"Whats on your mind?" Alison said. They had stood out on the balcony for a couple of minutes. "We're hear to talk. So talk."
"Its complicated." Rachel said.
"Nothings simple." Alison pointed out. "Otherwise life would be a breeze, no challenges whatsoever."
"Ok." Rachel said. "Its like this. Me and Ross, we have been on and off so many times in our lives. So many years making and breaking up. Now we're finally married." Rachel said as Alison nodded. "But why do I get the feeling that me and Ross is, how do you say it it...?"
"Arbitrary?" Alison offered.
"Whats that?" Rachel asked.
"Its like something that has to be or its something that is done without objection. I'd have to check my dictionary. The meaning might have changed. Gravity is arbitrary."
"Maybe thats it. Its like saying we have to be. Ross and Rachel. It flows, it sounds like its the perfect coupling of words."
"Course with your name it sounds good with anyone. With the exception of Abdullah and Rachel." Alison said.
"I know. Maybe its just a phase." Rachel said.
"Good. Ross is a good man. I hope its just one of those things. Its too late to get cold feet after you are already hitched." Alison said. "Let's go back in. It's getting cold."

Chandler was talking to Wesley.
"So they got married on the islands." Wesley said. "Sounds romantic."
"Yeah." Chandler said. "But somethings been bugging me about that."
"What?" Wesley said.
"When she got there she called me first, not her fiancee. If she really loved Ross she would have called him instead of me, just a lowly roomate."
"Have you asked her about it?" Wesley asked.
"I did, but she insists that she would have called him anyway." Chandler said. "I just think there is a hidden meaning to it."
"I think you're seeing what you want to see." Wesley said frankly. "Something that is probably not there in the first place."
"I think theres something to it. I wouldn't have thought of it otherwise."
"Try not to think about it." Wesley advised. "Or you'll spend your life worrying about nothing."
"I guess you're right." Chandler nodded.
"Of course I am." Wesley took a sip on his beer. "Its about time you admitted that."
