"That's all"

The gang, minus Monica and Phoebe, decided to have a rare night out. Ross and Rachel and Chandler and Joey decided to meet at "Steaks 4 u" It was one of Joeys favorite places to eat. "Steaks 4 u" happened to be a restaurant where you could cook your own steaks, whether it be well done or very rare. Joey practically jumped out of Ross's car when they arrived at the eatery.
"Joey, that steak might taste better if you got out of the car when it was at a full and complete stop, you know." Ross said.
"Oh yeah, sure." Joey said completely oblivious.
They entered the front door and were greeted by the head waitress.
"Hi ya'll welcome to Steaks 4 u, the best steakhouse in New york. Can I help you?" She asked politely, a slight southern twang escaping her lips.
"Sure." Joey said. "Four, non-smoking."
"Right this way," The waitress waved to an empty table. "We'll bring you your salad course as soon as we can." She said and left.
"Wow, salad." Chandler said dryly, "Is there a buffet too? If theres none I'm gonna be so upset." He said looking at Rachel.
"Ha ha." Joey said. "The buffet closed at four."
"Well I just doggone lost my appetite buckaroo." He replied. Rachel gave him a nudge.
"He's treating us. Don't bring him down." Rachel said. "Ross and I forgot our money so dont say anything that might have us either paying for our own meal, or as in our case, washing dishes."
"Yes ma'am." Chandler said. "I'm sorry guys. I've had a weird day."
"Really tell us about it." Ross said as the waitress served him a watercress salad.
"Ok." He said. "I saw Kathy today."
"What?" The others said in perfect unison.
"Unbelievable huh?" Chandler nodded.
"What did she want?" Rachel asked.
"Well, first just let me tell you how we met, unimportant stuff, keep you in suspense." Chandler said. "It was when I was coming back from lunch break and I was waiting for the Central street subway to come pick me up."

Chandler paced the subway, he grumbled a couple of times and looked athis watch.
"Come on! I'm gonna be late." Chandler said to himself.
"Hello Chandler." A voice said.
"Wha?" He spun on a dime. "Whos there?"
"It's me, Kathy." She said. Chandler said. "Aren't you going to give your old girlfriend a hug?"
"I dunno. You wanted to break me and Rachel up." He said.
"I know. How...how are you nowadays?" Kathy asked.
"She got married to Ross." Chandler said.
"Oh, I'm so sorry." She said. "Are you all right"
"I'm fine." Chandler said.
"Thats good." Kathy said stepping forward. She was holding a jacket, she shifted it to the middle of her hands, as if to warm them. "I was hoping you wouldnt be together anymore."
"Gee I'm so glad you're happy." He said.
"It'll make this easier to ask." She said. She stopped. "Check that, it will still be hard."
"What do you want?" He asked.
"Chandler, I want to have a baby." Kathy said. "But I havent been with anyone since, uh, well its been a long time. You might ask, what about a sperm bank? But its so cold and so impersonal. I thought it might be better to go with someone I knew, someone I once cared about." She said looking into Chandlers eyes.
"Let me know when you find him." Chandler said.
"I was hoping it would be you." She said.
"What?" Chandler said.
"Chandler Bing I want you to be the father of my child." She said.

"She what?" Rachel asked.
"She wants to have my baby." Chandler said over his salad.
"Oh my god." Rachel sat back. She wiped her mouth. "Kathy with a baby? Didnt you see the Omen? Damian? Does any of this ring a bell?"
"I dont know what to tell her." Chandler said. He tapped his salad fork.
"What do I do?"
"We cant tell you what to do Chandler..." Ross started.
"Yes we can, don't do it!" Rachel said loudly. Ross looked at her. "Nevermind." They were still looking at her when the waitress came up from behind them.
"Oh good you finished the salad course. You can now pick out your choice steak and fry it up to what you like." She said and bounced away.
"Chandler, it's your decision to make, no matter what anyone says." Ross said looking at Rachel. "Right Joey?" Ross looked over at Joeys seat. "Joey?" Joey was already taking care of his meal.
"I'll be right back. I gotta go to the bathroom." Ross said.
"But Ross! My steak!" Rachel said as Ross bolted to the mens room. She sighed and turned in her seat to the rest of her watercress salad.
"You want me to cook your steak for you?" Chandler asked gesturing to the grill where Joey had gathered a crowd with his grilling stylings.
"Sure." Rachel said. "Be careful. Ross maced me with my own hairspray this morning. My face just might burst into flames. A fair warning." She nodded.
"Appreciate it." Chandler smiled. They walked over to the second grill together. He spun on her as she got her white poppy patterned plate. "How do you like it?" He said looking into her eyes.
"Like it?" She asked slowly, forgetting where she was.
"Your steak." He held up a prime cut. "How how do you like it cooked?"
"Medium rare." She said still looking at him. "I still like to see a little red in my meat." She said.
"Don't we all." Chandler said turning to the grill. Rachel took a deep breath. She turned away from him.
"What was that?" She thought to herself. "You cant look at him like that. You're married now. But still he looked back the same way." She stole a peek at Chandler. "Nah. I'm just seeing things." She and blindly reached out.
"Whoa!" Ross said grabbing her hand. "You almost got torched there." He said bring her hand back from over the hot grill.
"I did?" She asked. "That wouldnt haven't been a good thing."
"Thank god I was here to save you." Ross said as he rubbed her hand. "Wow, you seared some hair off your arm."
"Hmm." Rachel said. "Can we sit down now? I'm sure Chef Chandler can finish my steak." She smiled at him as he threw some spices on.
"As you wish." He said.

A few minutes later the gang was reseated at their table. Chandler picked at his steak while Joey had managed to eat at least a chunk of everyone elses.
"Chandler whats wrong?" Joey asked.
"I don't know. I'm not hungry." He said putting his fork down.
"Oh can I have that then?" Joey asked.
"Sure." Chandler slide his plate over to Joey who promptly started devouring his steak.
"Chandler if its Kathy thats on your mind, maybe you ought to talk to her a little more about this baby thing." Rachel said.
"She asked me to give her an answer as soon as I can." Chandler said. "But I can tell, something in her eyes told me to hurry up and make up my mind. She WANTS me to say yes. I'm not sure. All I know about is that this is one of the biggest soap opera ploys, you have his kid, you get him. I watched too much of Joeys show for my own good."
"Do what you feel is right man." Ross said.
"I think I will." Chandler said. "I'm gonna go over to see Kathy.
Rachel watched him go.
"Wait a minute, why should I care whether she has his kid or not? Its got nothing to do with me." She returned to her steak to find that it was gone.
"Oh did you want that?" Joey said with Rachels steak on his plate.
Rachel sighed.

Ross and Rachel were sitting together in bed. He was holding her.
"Ross, would you ever do that?" Rachel asked.
"Do what honey?" Ross asked.
"If Carol came back and wanted you to father another kid with you..."
"Which is impossible..." Ross stopped her.
"Ok, what about any exgirlfriend then." Rachel said. "Would you do that?"
"What? Of course not." Ross said kissing her on the head. "Any kids I'm gonna have, I am going to have with you. My wife, ok? You are my wife, and nothing would ever take that away from me."
"Good." Ross said.
"If Chandler had any sense he would say no to Kathy too." Ross said.
"True." Rachel said. "When do you think he will tell us."
"I dont' know." Ross said. "When hes ready I guess."
