"Dress Me Up"

Chandler was taking a message on the telephone when Monica and Rachel emerged from her room.
"I can't believe I can't go dress shopping with you today." Monica whined.
"I know." Rachel said. "But you gotta be here to hear about what dance you and Chandler will be doing at the contest ina few weeks. Its especially important that you be here for the message, after all his answering machine is broken anyway."
"Whos fault is that?" Chandler said to her, putting the phone to one side so who he was talking to couldnt hear him.
"Well I'm sorry I dropped it on the floor. I was trying to change the message." Rachel said, waving her arms.
"Thats not the way to do it, you know." Monica said. "Who are you going to the dress place with?"
"Joey and Phoebe." Rachel said. "Ross can't see my dress, its bad luck. Also I'm going to try and find you something nice to wear as maid of honor."
"That's great." Monica said. "I hope you pick out a good dress."
"Yeah, but I have no idea what I want yet." Rachel put one arm around Monica. "I might want to have it fancy, I may not, I may want a hawaiian theme, I may not."
"Ok, ok. I get your point." Monica said. "I'm sorry Steve and I made you try on all those dresses."
"Thats ok." Rachel said. "That was a long time ago." Rachel clapped her hands together. "What about Pete? You told me he proposed to you. Do you have an answer for him? Maybe this could be a double wedding." Rachel finished with a smile.
"I don't know." Monica sat down. "The last time this happened, I rushed into a decision. Look what happened. I may think a little more on this. I don't want to go up to the alter if someone else is not there waiting for me."
"I understand Mon." Rachel said.
"Thanks." Monica said.
There was a knock at the door.
"I'll get that." Rachel said. She walked to the door, and opened it. It was Joey and Phoebe with their children Jennifer and Jamie. "I thought you would be here a lot sooner than this." Rachel said as the whole entourage came in the door.
"I'm sorry," Joey said. "but theres no elevator in this building, did you know that?" Joey set up the travel-crib in the living room. "We had to bring all this up, and the babies up the back stairs."
"We're ready to go." Phoebe said. "Chandler and Monica said they would watch the kids while we are shopping." Phoebe smiled. "This is gonna be so cool."
"Did you really say you would sit for the kids?" Rachel asked Monica as Chandler got off the phone.
"Sure, I mean its not like we're going anywhere." Monica said.
"Great." Joey said.
"Ok, we'll go now." Rachel said grabbing her coat.
"Jamie? Jenny?" Phoebe leaned over to her girls in the crib. "Youre gonna be with uncle Chandy and auntie Monica while we are gone. We'll be back soon." Phoebe got up "We love you."
Joey, Phoebe and Rachel left. Chandler and Monica looked at the two babies in the crib in front of them.
"Is it just me, or do those kids look nothing like Joey and Phoebe?" Chandler said pointing one out.
"Maybe not now but someday they might." Monica explained.
"Ah, ok." Chandler said. "I don't know how to feel about that." He said after a short pause.
"Who was that on the phone?" Monica asked.
"Oh it was one of the contest officials." Chandler said going back to his chair. "They gave us information on the contest we will be in." He got a pad of paper. "I had to left them know about you taking the place of Rachel at the competition."
"Was it okay? Cause if its not you will have to drop out completely." Monica said sitting down with Chandler at the table.
"Oh, they had to look it up in some sort of rules book. Thats why it took them so long to get an answer to me. Anyhoo, this kind of thing never happened before so they didnt have anything in the rule book about it. Its very new."
"Am I in or not?" Monica said impatiently.
"Yep." Chandler said. "All we have to do is do the dance they assigned to us."
"What would that be, or did they tell you yet?"
"Yeah." Chandler opened up the notepad. He showed it to her. Monica shook her head.
"You gotta be kidding." Monica said.
"Nope." Chandler said closing the notebook.
"But it can't be." Monica said. She took hold of Chandlers shirt and lightly shook him. "We don't know how to do swing dancing!!"

La Fommes Bridal Shop

Rachel stood on a step in a stiff pose. The minute she walked into the shop she as thrown up on the step, and had a large white dress pulled over her head. She was being measured for a wedding dress by one of the bridal shops tailors. The woman had stuck a couple of pins into the dress, then seemingly abandoned her for fifteen minutes before coming back.
"Ok, madame, we have your basic size determined, you may take the dress off, and please step down." She said as she pulled pins out of the dress. The tailor said who promptly disapeared again.
Rachel pulled the dress off over her head. She had it pulled up so fat before it got stuck. She jiggled around for a second before turning to her friends.
"Phoebe help!" She said.
Phoebe put down a bridal gown guide. She walked over and gave the dress a big dress a even bigger tug. It seemed to give after one or two big tugs. Then it pulled over Rachels head, where it then ripped in half. The dress split in half and fell at Rachels feet.
Rachel blushed as the tailor reentered the room. The tailor looked at the dress and crossed her arms.
"Uh," Rachel smiled uneasily. "You can put that on my account."
"You dont have an account here." The tailor said. "Not yet anyway." She stiffly turned and left the room. Phoebe and Joey watched her go.
"What a bitch!" Joey said.
"I hope she likes her next life, as a sewing bobbin." Phoebe said, agreeing with Joey.
"I need to get a dress now." Rachel said. She went over to the dress racks. "Why can't I be a man? It would be much easier to find a tuxedo in my size than a dress that would look good on me."
"Whoa there." Joey said. "It's even tougher to find a tux."
"Hows that?" Rachel said pulling out a frilly dress. "Ugh, I would be like a walking doiley in this."
"Well you have to find one with enough room, all over." He said. "Also, do you want a tie? If so, what kind of tie? Big tie? Little tie? Bow tie?" He said. "Then there are the many shades of black you gotta pick from. That is if you want black at all." Joey said. Then he stopped realizing Rachel and Phoebe had stopped listening for five minutes now. "Ok."

Chandlers place

Chandler had run to the local video store while Monica played "Whoosie-Gowie" with the kids. "Whoosie-Gowie" was not actually a game, as much as a massive tickle fight. Chandler had come back in record time.
"Wow, you barely left and you're back." Monica said getting up.
"We have to know what swing dancing is." Chandler explained. "We gotta know what the judges expect out of us."
"True." Monica said. "So what are the videos for? They better not be anything dirty." She pointed out.
"Dirty, smirty, that's Joeys department." Chandler said. "When we lived together, he would rent so many of such a movie, he had the movie code down pat." Chandler put the videos on the counter. "But thats not important. These are classic movies with swing dancing. Or at least about swing dancing."
"Hmm." Monica took on of the videos. "What the heck, we have nothing to lose. Let's watch Swing kids first."
"Good." Chandler said. He ran over, popped the video in the vcr. Monica got the remote and sat down. They watched the opening titles. Monica sat watching for a second, then hit the fast forward button.
"What are you doing?" Chandler asked. "I havent seen this."
"We're gonna watch the dancing. The rest is not important." Monica said. She hit play. "Here we go." They sat in silence as they watched the movie. After about ten minutes of dancing, Monica stopped the tape.
"Oh my god." Monica said.
"It would take a miracle for us to get that good." Chandler said. "These guys had training you know."
"You know what we have to do?" Monica asked.
"What?" Chandler responded. He looked at her for a second.
"We have to get lessons, and quick too!" Monica said.
"Great, there goes my allowance." Chandler moaned.

La Fommes Bridal Shop

Rachel came out of the dressing room.
"Ok this is the last one." Rachel said. "What do you think?"
"Hmm." Phoebe said. "It is very simple, not very frilly yet not completely plain either."
"Good." Rachel said. "I'll take it. Now to pick out the bridesmaid dresses."
"Sorry." The tailor that Rachel had talked to before stopped behind her. "We're closed now."
"Do'h!" Rachel said.
"Thats ok." Phoebe said. "We'll go now."
Rachel met Joey and Phoebe outside. "What about the bridesmaid dresses?"
"Oh, don't worry about that. While you were picking out your dress we picked them out." Joey said.
"How?" Rachel said.
"The point of the bridesmaid dress is so the bride, you, would look radiant. We found a style that fits the job." Phoebe said. "Let's go. My babies will be missing me."
"I'll join you in a second." Rachel said, watching them walk away. She then turned to the store window, then secretly wondered what dress she picked out. "Oh well, I'll find out on my wedding day."
