Beyond Friends Episode 115

"Broadway"

Surprise Girl
The friends gang

Ross knocked on Rachels door.
"Rach?"
"Go away." She called.
"It's been two days," Ross said. "You still can't be mad at me for losing your money at that roulette wheel."
"Yeah? Try me!"
"Rachel, I'm sorry." Ross said. "Can I talk to you."
"I don't know. If I open that door I might kill you rather than talk to you." Rachel said. She paused. "Did Chandler send you?"
"No. I came by myself."
"Let me think about it ok?" Rachel said.
"Promise?"
"I promise." Rachel said.
"Great." Ross said leaving the door. He walked downstairs where Chandler was contemplating putting his last quarter in a slot machine.
"How did it go?" Chandler asked as he pocketed the quarter.
"She'd said she will think about talking to me. Man I really screwed up here." Ross shook his head.
"If you think thats great, guess what?" Chandler said. "With the funds that we do have, we wont have enough money to stay here another night or so, and we still have to go back to New York." Chandler said.
"What does this mean for the wedding?" Ross asked.
"It means there will be no wedding."
"Oh my god."
"Don't I know it." Chandler said. "Thats why we have to get the money back."
"But how?" Ross asked.
"Joey said he and Greta had an idea for us." Chandler said. "They're gonna have dinner with us later."
"Whats the idea?"
"I don't know, but she said to bring an open mind." Chandler said.
"I don't like the sound of that." Ross said.
"I know." Chandler said.
"Look I gotta go to my room for a shower." Ross said, "I'll see you at dinner."
"See ya." Chandler said as Ross walked away.
Ross started to go to his room when he was stopped by the elevator.
"Hi." Ross said.
"Hi." The woman said.
"Uh do I know you?" Ross asked the woman as they got on the elevator.
"I don't think so." She said.
"Oh ok." They both touched the same floor button on the elevator. "Sorry."
"Thats ok." She said.
"I didn't catch your name." He said.
"Jennifer." She said. "And you are..."
"Ross." He said extending his hand. "So what are you doing in Las Vegas?"
"I was on my honeymoon." Jennifer said taking his hand. "Was meaning to say that my husband decided to ditch me. When we were married we never had a honey moon so he thought we might have it on the one year anniversary. He met someone else. I became less important and we got divorced." She sighed. "Its my fourth marriage."
"I'm sorry." Ross said. "I know how you feel though, I got divorced this year. My fourth, too."
"Oh."Jennifer said. "We're at our floor. Well good luck."
"Thanks." Ross said but he had no idea what for. "If i see you around."
"I'll say hi." Jennifer said waving. "Bye."
"Bye." Ross said and went into his room.

Dinner

Ross and Chandler had managed to coax Rachel out of her room. She walked down arm and arm with Chandler. Ross tried his best to talk to her but she refused to listen.
"Rachel." Chandler said taking her aside. "I don't think Ross meant to lose our money on purpose. I mean the only reason he might would be if he was still in love with you right?"
"Right."
"But hes still not in love with you." Chandler said. "He's trying very hard to make this friendship of yours work."
"But he ruined our wedding!" She protested.
"Rachel, you know as well as anyone no one can ruin the wedding, or any happiness we might have after it." Chandler touched her cheek. "You might not now but some day we'll look at this and laugh."
"Maybe someday." Rachel said and looked at Ross. "We're gonna be late for dinner." She said.
They finished walking to the main dining hall of the restaurant. Ross was already sitting down. He looked her way warily. She gave him a small smile. He sighed and smiled back the same way.
"Welcome darlings!" Greta said. "I'm glad you're here."
"You said something about an idea?" Ross asked.
"I did." Greta said. "When I heard that you and Rachels wedding might be in dire jeopardy, I thought I would come and help." She said. "You know why I'm here? Other than to be the matron of honor?"
"The seafoods good?" Chandler asked.
"Oh no." Greta laughed. "I'm doing a show! My first one."
"She's really good too." Joey said.
"But we have one problem darlings." Greta said. "Certain circumstances have taken place. Most of my dancers are gone."
"Dancers?" Monica asked suddenly appearing.
"Well not really dancing. Just doing a little thing like... " Greta moved her hands. "Anyway I need new people for tonights last show. I will pay for your wedding if you guys will help me out." She said.
"Really?" Rachel said.
"Please!" Greta said. "I will absolutely die if I have to go out there alone."
"What do you think Chandler?" Rachel asked.
"Does this kind of thing involve dresses? Cause I'm allergic to taffeta." He joked. No one laughs. "What?"
"What do we have to do?" Ross said.
"Well I need you and the guys to stand at the end of the stage and help the girls on and off of it." Greta said. "The girls do the actual dancing."
"I can do that." Rachel said. "Monica?"
"Sure. If it will get us a wedding." She said.
"Fabulous." Greta said. She got on a phone. "Hello Steve? Yes, we're on tonight. I'll let you know when we get there. We're on in half an hour, so eat up!"

The show was an almost disaster. Rachel had forgotten that she couldnt walk on heels higher than three and a half inches. She almost fell twice on the stage. It was worse for Monica who actually took a nosedive and ended up somehow balanced, however precariously, on her fingers. The girls were wearing flimsy metallic bikinis that left almost nothing left to the imagination. When they weren't falling over their matching death shoes, they tried to cover up a little. Greta sang in the middle of the two. The audience, as small as it seemed, loved it.
Ross and Chandler stood at one end of the stage while Joey held the other end.
"How was Rachel when you talked to her?" Ross said.
"She'll forgive and forget in time." Chandler said. "You seem a lot better."
"I think I am." Ross said. "I met someone."
"Ooh, do tell." Chandler said as Rachel waved to him from her position.
"I met her in the elevator. Her name is Jennifer, she never gave me a last name. We seemed to have so much in common. Same height, hair, marriage history." Ross said. "Is it alright if I bring her to the wedding?"
"Sure." Chandler said. "I'd love to meet her."
"Me too." Ross said thinking to himself. "What if I never see her again?"
The show ended at that. Rachel toddled over to Chandler.
"I felt like it would never end!"
"I know." Chandler said. "Can you keep the outfit?"
"ooh, naughty boy." She whispered. "Maybe after the honey moon." She promised.
"Yeah. We got a wedding to go to!" Chandler said to the gang. "Let's go!"
